Today in music history: 1983
Today, we look back to 1983 and find:
"Maniac" by Michael Sembello
This one has a fun chorus, but it takes a million years to get there. Then, it doesn't end, it just keeps going...and going....and the verses are not terribly strong, unfortunately.
What do you think of this one?
Previously in 1983:
Beat It
Come On, Eileen
Every Breath You Take
Flashdance...What a Feeling

Today in music history: 1985
Today, we look back to 1985, and find:
"Take My Breath Away" by Berlin
Hee. This song is fun to sing along with. Away-a-ay-ay. Other than that, it's a titch boring, but is is one of the main songs from Top Gun, so I'm sure people love it from that.

Today in music history: 1999
Today we look back to 1999, and find:
"Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias
Hmm. In looking back at that video, I don't know why I was surprised at his Tonight video from a couple of years ago. He's kinda skeevey even here.
But other than that, this is generic Latin music 101: horns, a fast beat, and lyrics you can only pretend to sing along to.

"La Bamba" by Los Lobos
Anyone else have the urge to sing along hardcore, and then fail miserably cause the words won't come out?
Just me?
Okay then.

Today in music history: 1990
Today, we look back to 1990, and find:
"Blaze of Glory" by Jon Bon Jovi
As I write this, I'm watching America's Got Talent. It's not every day that a song comes so close to being spot on, and yet so incredibly far away.
They're all going down pretty hard tonight...not so much with glory though...more like extreme suckitude.

Today, we look back to 1988, and find:
"Venus" by Banarama
I had no idea what this song was when I worte it down, but as soon as it started playing, all I could think was 'Razors!'
The thing that struck me most about this song was the video, and more specifically, the clothes and hair. For being made in 1988, they were practically normal, that really surprised me.

Today in music history: 1983
Today, we look back to 1983, and find:
"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by the Eurythmics
What a great song. The beat is great, the chorus is great, the sing-along factor is off the charts due to the small amount of words. Great song all around.

And now, for something completely different! I was a little bored, and a love this song, so here's a bit of me singing it, cause I'm sure people are very interested in that!

Today, we look back to 1989, and find:
"Cold Hearted" by Paula Abdul
And we have another boring song. What is up with all the boring in the number ones?
Paula Abdul was doing her best crazy eyes for the video, but it still didn't make it very interesting.

AKA, the most boring song in the history of the planet.
Wow, who did that group sleep with to get a number one hit? That song was boring, the video was boring, and there was no reason at all for that song to exist.

Today in music history: 1995
Today, we look back to 1995, and find:
"You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson
I think I would like this song better if, MJ didn't look so freaking creepy. He's so feminine looking, and yet it trying so hard to show his masculinity, what with the shirt unbuttoned to his belly button, and the female love interest.
The CGI was also pretty terrible, but that just may be a result of when it was made.

Today, we look back to 1997, and find:
"Mo Money, Mo Problems" by BIG
This is...honestly, not my kind of music. I assume this was made right before he died, seeing as 'I'll Be Missing You' was the last song from 1997?
The video was kind of distracting, what with the cut scenes right in the middle of the song, though.

Today, we look back to 1988, and find:
"Monkey" by George Michael.
This came out when I was five. I don't remember the 80's being that weird, but I keep on seeing conflicting evidence to the contrary.
This song is strange, and it is another one that I am surprised made it to number 1.
